New York City Baby!

I cannot lie since being an avid superfan of Sex and the City in my 20’s, 30’s and 40’s, it has been my dream to travel to NYC for 20 years!

Growing up watching Carrie, Samantha, Charlotte and Miranda strut the NYC streets in fabulous fashion and manolo blahniks while knocking back Cosmopolitans I became fascinated with the city.

For my 40th birthday I became the luckiest girl in the world as my fabulous husband booked us a 6 night trip to the Big Apple and my dream finally came true in January 2020.

If you are thinking of travelling to NYC I would highly recommend this time of year. As it is after the Christmas and New Years Eve celebrations that New York is famous for it is a lot quieter and Mastercard run an event between January 21st and February 9th called NYC Restaurant Week and also includes NYC Theatre Week and NYC Museum Week which gives you set price 2 course lunch and 3 course dinner offers and up to 60% off Broadway shows. We were able to see Chicago on Broadway for £70 each for second row seats! and dined at Cipriani on Wall Street for lunch alongside stockbrokers and investment bankers.

Even with the fantastic offers we were still spending approximately $180-$200 dollars a day on food and drink. Travelling from the UK with NYC being 5 hours behind we decided to keep our body clocks in the same pattern which meant that 9pm back home was the start of Happy Hour in NYC so we took advantage of half price cocktails every evening.

Late January is also Chinese New Year so we had a fantastic afternoon at the Firecracker festival in Chinatown (which is not for the faint hearted as involves lots of the community out with drums and dragons dancing in and out of all the retailers bringing luck and good fortune to each business owner) and of course we had to sample some dumplings aswell. We also walked from here to Little Italy and had a drink in the Mulberry Street Bar which was featured in The Godfathers movie.

I would also recommend getting a New York City pass which gives you free entry to numerous attractions. We visited the Empire State Building, New York Library, The Ride, Rockefeller Centre, 9/11 Museum, Madame Tussauds, Brooklyn Bridge, Top of the Rock, Statue of Liberty, Highline, Grand Central Station, 66 Perry Street and Magonolia Bakery (SATC Fans!).
